I’ve always loved stories, and throughout my life have had the privilege of being invited into the stories of people’s very own pilgrimages, rites of passage and crossings. Through the beginning of my career in journalism and human resources, to the last 12 years in my doula and now trauma work, I have been allowed this insight.

Spiral Tree began in 2014 after a move to KZN and the birth of my niece.

I was my dear sister’s doula and as her red-headed daughter emerged, I was given the beautiful allowance of being the first to touch her. We also share matching birth-marks. I was looking for a creative outlet and wanted to make my sister something special with her placenta that she encapsulated with Organic Birth, to remember her empowering pregnancy and birth journey. After I searched for someone to help me, I realized that I needed to do it on my own. With my own newborn baby girl on my chest, I researched and experimented and found a way to enclose treasured memories in pendants and keepsakes.
